Outsider Art

"A dream will always triumph over reality, once it is given the chance."

Stanislaw Lem

And with that lofty quote from one of my favorite sci-fi authors, we shall enter into the not-oft-traveled world of outsider art, or, that is, art produced by the untrained and in most cases mentally... Odd. You can go straigh to the source, wikipedia, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outsider_art

The work that you see above is Adolf Wölfli's Irren-Anstalt Band-Hain, created 1910. I'm not sure if it's just me, but when I look at it I feel like I'm standing inside, and partially outside, an easter orthadox cathedral that has been pushed into two dimensions. AW also composed music and wrote a sprawling fantasy based on his own life that included 25,000 pages, 1,600 illustrations and 1,500 collages.

On a tangent, I just found this post excellent art blog while looking for something else: http://www.mrbalihai.com/goof/art/

Fun and Games

Well, the school is is almost over and my wonderful summer job is just about to kick in, so what's the first thing I think to do with all my new free time? That's right class! Fill it up with creative writing!

I'm trying to start a Play By Post Role Playing Game (PBPRPG) on the RPG.net forma. I'm going to be using the absolutely ownderful (and free, I might add) JAGS Wonderland setting of dark modern fantasy and madness mixed with the inovative, independently produced Prime Time Adventures rule system. You can take a look here: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?p=7160399&posted=1#post7160399

If that last paragraph made no sense whatsoever than maybe you'll like this a bit more. Have a look at one of my personal favorite webcomics, Not Included. Funny? Deep? Just read acouple of strips, but be careful, it starts kind of slow: http://not-included.net/index.php

From the mists of time, I rise again.

My Blog!!! IT lives Again!!!

Ahem.

I'm taking this short break from writing my literature review on the roll of scientific mismanagement in the collapse of the Northwest Atlantic cods stocks to tell you that the Saint Mary's University Environmental Society (SMUES) has created a society account on Facebook that can be found here http://stmarys.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2256150316.

Also: some one has discovered a new way for you to become emotionaly numb at the realities of modern society. Please take a look at the work of the talented Chris Jordan at http://www.chrisjordan.com/current_set2.php?id. Statistics never looked to so good.

Enjoy,

By Strange and wondrous happen stance, I now have a blog

Welcome to Sensorium, my new blog where, as Lister Sinclaire once said "Anything interesting goes."

For the curious: Sensorium, aside from being my usual netname, is a word that means the collection of all ones senses, that is, ones sensorial experience of sight, sound, taste, touch and smell, or more scientifically, EM detection, Thermal detection, chemical detection and mechanical detection. I thought the title appropriate for a blog that is destined to become a catalogue of my experiential ramblings.

The practical reason for the genesis of my blog is that I'm taking a course in ocean use and management which uses a blog here. For the inordinately curious, the course is at Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
